I’m Kat Johnston and I’m running for Ward 3 School Committee.

I’ve spent my career in and around education—as a first grade teacher, as a policymaker at the state level, as a nonprofit leader supporting educators, and now as a parent of three kids, including two already in our public schools.

I’ve seen the system from multiple perspectives.

What sets me apart is my commitment to action. When something needs to be done, I roll up my sleeves, bring people together, and make it happen. 

I’m running for School Committee because I believe that Somerville’s public schools should reflect the promise and potential of every child who walks through their doors. That means every student gets the services and support they need, every family feels informed and connected, and our schools are vibrant parts of our community.
